Master Food Preserver

Do you enjoy the art and science of food preservation? Would you like to develop expertise in food preservation? Consider becoming a Master Food Preserver.

What is it?
Master Food Preservers are trained and certified in food safety and preservation. They volunteer to staff the food preservation hotline, conduct workshops and demonstrations, and provide information at fairs, festivals, farmers markets and health fairs. They are knowledgeable, skilled and have practical advice for stretching your food dollars.

If you would like to find out if your state offers this opportunity to become a Master Food Preserver, contact your local Extension Office (usually listed in local government pages of the phone book under Cooperative Extension Service, Ag Extension Office and/or 4-H Office). You could also contact someone at the state university to either ask your questions or let them know of your interest.

Some great resources for home canning:

Follow the rules - don't changes the recipes. It's just not worth the risk.

  1. There are NO canning or preserving courses available in Canada, at least not that I can find. Bummer, eh?
