This just looks wonderful. I think I need to try this today. It is very cold here -3 this morning and I think a high of 10 so this would be a good day.

Thankful for Family

I am just back home from the airport.
My mom flew out two weeks ago to join us for Thanksgiving. It had been 2 or 3 years since she had been here. (Neither of us could remember which)
Of course DH and I have gone back but mom hadn't been this way which meant she hadn't seen the little ones.
We had a lovely visit.
Our sons and their families were able to come and spend time here and we packed grandma up and took her out and about too.
I'm thankful for my dear sister that took her to the airport and today will be picking her up when her flight arrives and deliver her safely back home.
Mom's flight was early this morning so she and I went up yesterday and got a room. Went out to dinner and did some Christmas shopping for the little girls from her. Now there will be no mailing.
I hope you all had a beautiful Thanksgiving and that you have much to be thankful for too.

Happy Thanksgiving
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
Psalm 100:4
Wishing you and yours a beautiful day of giving thanks.
The harvest is in.
We finished the grapes last weekend.
All the canning and the garden hustle and bustle is done for the season.
It started snowing here yesterday and snowed all through the night. We have a beautiful blanket of snow everywhere. The earth has been set to rest for the winter.
God is so good - all the time.
May you be blessed fully this day and year.
We are having family and friends in for dinner.
I am doing the easy stuff.
Turkey
Ham
Dressing
and
Potatoes
The guests are bringing the 'sides' and desserts.
Blessings to you.

November 10th, 1975
40 years ago... I was a young girl.
For seventeen years Fitzgerald carried taconite iron ore from mines near Duluth, Minnesota, to iron works inDetroit, Toledo, and other Great Lakes ports. As a "workhorse", she set seasonal haul records six times, often breaking her own previous record.[5][6] Captain Peter Pulcer was known for piping music day or night over the ship's intercom while passing through the St. Clair and Detroit Rivers (between Lakes Huron and Erie), and entertaining spectators at the Soo Locks (between Lakes Superior and Huron) with a running commentary about the ship.[5] Her size, record-breaking performance, and "DJ captain" endeared Fitzgerald to boat watchers.[7]SS Edmund Fitzgerald was an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in a Lake Superior storm on November 10, 1975, with the loss of the entire crew of 29. When launched on June 7, 1958, she was the largest ship on North America's Great Lakes, and she remains the largest to have sunk there.

Carrying a full cargo of ore pellets with Captain Ernest M. McSorley in command, she embarked on her ill-fated voyage from Superior, Wisconsin, near Duluth, on the afternoon of November 9, 1975. En route to a steel mill near Detroit, Fitzgerald joined a second freighter, SS Arthur M. Anderson. By the next day, the two ships were caught in a severe storm on Lake Superior, with near hurricane-force winds and waves up to 35 feet (11 m) high. Shortly after 7:10 p.m., Fitzgerald suddenly sank in Canadian (Ontario) waters 530 feet (160 m) deep, about 17 miles (15 nautical miles; 27 kilometers) from Whitefish Bay near the twin cities of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, and Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario—a distance Fitzgerald could have covered in just over an hour at her top speed. Although Fitzgerald had reported being in difficulty earlier, no distress signals were sent before she sank; Captain McSorley's last message to Anderson said, "We are holding our own." Her crew of 29 perished, and no bodies were recovered.

Apple Harvest
We picked the last of the apples today. It was a great year for them. We harvested the Honey Crisp tree mid-September. And we've been picking the golden crisp right along but today we decided it was time to get the final golden crisp picked and the red delicious were ready too.
Thankfully our kids wanted apples too (this is way too much for just us). We dropped the cooler full at Son #1's and then drove up to Son #2's home to drop the four canners full and a basket of the red delicious off. While driving north to #2 sons we drove through our first snow of the year.
I guess winter is coming.
I better get busy on the apples.
Happy Harvest to all.

Our Kitten
I took Lucy in this morning to be spayed. I was out front signing all the paperwork when the vet came out and said, "I need to speak with you before you go". I went back and found out that Lucy is a Louie that has already been neutered.... We really tried to find the owner of this cat I posted pics on facebook, made fliers, looked at the local lost and found for pets, walked my neighborhood asking if this was their kitten, etc... We really tried. But since no one has claimed him. I went ahead and had him vaccinated and wormed. So could I introduce Louie not Lucy. My aunt thought this was a real hoot since we are animal people. But lets face it boy animals usually have exterior parts... I'm guessing this was a pound kitty that was neutered at 8 weeks and then somehow lost by his owners. But he is loved at our house and fits right in. He is 6 months old according to his teeth.

Be strong and of a good courage...
Joshua 1:9King James Version (KJV)
9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.Another great verse. God is so good to us.

What's my job?
\
Do you ever worry just a bit about the future? Is the stock market steady, is our government stable, is trouble on the horizon... etc. Well I hate to admit it but I have been concerned lately. So I began to pour this concern out to God.
My husband gave me a great verse:
I don't mean to make it sound like I was all in a dither but it was an underlying concern. And when we continue to carry or hold on to concerns it can become heavier with time. Then today I listened to this and it was the finial piece or should I say peace.
God's job is to care for his children. I am a child of God. He is my Father in Heaven and cares for me. So just in case you too have been carrying some underlying concerns I will share this peace with you.

My husband gave me a great verse:
Philippians 4:8King James Version (KJV)
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
My son also gave me a great verse:
Isaiah 26:3King James Version (KJV)
3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Still Here
Sorry for the lack of post but we have been busy!! Back to work full time (I love working at a school where I get some summer off) but back at in since July. With that, canning, gardening, laundry and trying to make a meal now and again... :-) as I say busy.
We went last Saturday to the mountains to cut a load of wood. We stopped after about 50 miles to let the dog out for a bathroom break. She went right to the tire well. DH opened the hood of the truck and we had a stowaway...
She had ridden all that way between the battery and water reservoir. She was so happy to be lifted out of there and ride the rest of the way inside the truck.
I have posted pictures on facebook of her. Called the vet in case someone was looking for their lost kitten but unfortunately no one seems to be missing her.
She is an outdoor kitten (we have two family members allergic to cats so she cannot be in the house) and she is adjusting to our 88 pound Labrador - well adjusting might be a strong word - tolerating, avoiding, yes those are better words.
But she is a sweet little thing and we are growing fond of her. Our #3 granddaughter carried her around this evening and has decided that her name should be Lucy. I have an Aunt Lucile, I'm not sure she would be all that impressed with the name but it seems to have stuck.
So even though we had no intentions of any additional pets it seems that Miss Lucy has joined the family.
