Rehydration Drink - Keep the Water Clean

I have shared some recipes in the past but wanted to share again.  These items are important to have on hand..

Homemade Sports Drink
1 envelope unsweetened powdered drink mix
5/8 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon lite salt (or 1/2 teaspoon salt + 1/2 teaspoon lite salt for less potassium)
2 quarts water

Oral Rehydration Therapy (ORT) (substitute for Pedialyte, Lytren or Resol)
1 quart water
1 scant teaspoon lite salt
10 teaspoons sugar (3-1/3 tablespoons)
1/3 teaspoon baking soda
Small amount of flavored sugar free gelatin for flavor (optional)   I would use less sugar above and use regular jello mix.  I'm not big on sugar substitutes.

I need to buy some lite salt. This just isn't something I normally have on hand. I have read that you can use molasses as the potassium replacement but I'm not sure how that would taste. And I have personally discovered taste of these drinks is important!!

If you don't have the above the simple recipe below works!

We are so very blessed to live with clean water and plumbing.  Even though, thankfully, this is the case the below information is good to know.   In days gone by there were outbreaks of Cholera because the privies were too close to the water source.

(P.S. this is a bit graphic.  It isn't meant to disgust but to inform.  I thought the boil time and chlorine info was very helpful.)
