Creed - I Believe

Has anyone ever asked you "What do you believe?".    A dear friend of a different faith asked me.  We had had many talks about our faiths.  And then she asked, "what do you believe?"  This was my best answer.  I believe that the Bible is God's word and it is truth. The Apostles Creed covers what I believe.  She even had me print it out. 

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,

Creator of Heaven and Earth
And in Jesus Christ
His only Son, Our Lord
Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit
Born of the Virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
Was crucified, died and was buried.
On the third day, he rose again
He ascended into Heaven
and is seated at the right hand
of God, the Father Almighty.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Holy Catholic Church,
the Communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.


It's good to know what you believe.

Car conversation with my 4 year old granddaughter

I had taken my granddaughter to her dance class as both mom and dad had meetings or appointments.

I had a wonderful time watching her practice with all of her classmates. For our treat we stopped by the snack bar to buy some dinner.

On our way home, about a 15-minute drive, she started singing a song my husband taught her on a hunting trip, What do you do with a drunken sailor, great right, just the song any parent would want their child to know. So, in my infinite wisdom, I thought what a great time to teach her Jesus Loves Me. So, we were singing along and out of the blue, as is always the case with four year old's, she brought up church and communion. 

“Remember when we ate Jesus’ body? Why would we eat Jesus’ body?” 

My response was, “well actually we ate bread and juice to remember what Jesus did on the cross.” 

(bad to worse here)

“What did he do on the cross?”

“Jesus died on the cross so we could live.”

In a terrified voice, “I don’t want to die – that’s scary.”

“You’re not going to die for a long time – not until you’re old and gray.”

“Really?”

“Yes, don’t be scared, everything is fine.”

“Jesus died that we might live.”

“So, I’m not going to die, ever?”

At this point I was ready to sing the second verse of What do you do with a drunken sailor …

I think I need to buy this book. 

Child's Guide to First Holy Communion

Magic Mix

I love this stuff!!  I keep it on hand and use it for cream soups, sauces and pudding.  I use my paddle mixer attachment not whip.  The paddle works great as well.





Magic Mix

4 cups instant dry milk,
(or 2 1/3 cups non-instant)
1 cup flour, (or ½ cup cornstarch)
1 cup margarine

refrigerator 6-8 months.
Combine dry milk, flour and butter into a large bowl. Mix with electric hand mixer until it resembles corn meal. Keep mix tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to six months. Yield: 5 cups.

Magic Mix Pudding

1/2 C. Sugar
1 C. Magic Mix
2-3 T. Cocoa (optional)
2 C. Water
1 t. Vanilla

Combine Magic Mix, sugar and cocoa in saucepan and mix well. Add water, stir over medium heat until pudding bubbles. Add vanilla and beat. Cover and Cool

Cannery Trip

We had a productive time at the cannery.  We purchased items as well as packaged food for the local food bank.  It was a great way to be able to give a bit or our time to others as well as buy some items for our own pantries.  The products were all of the highest quality and everything was sparkling clean.  I was very impressed.

The Button Box

Do you have a button box?

When my Grandmother passed away years ago, my mom asked me if there was something specific I would like.  Yes, I would like Grandmom's button box.  Why on earth would you want the button box?...

Because when I was young Gram would let me play.  What a treasure box it was.  There were diamond studded buttons, huge coat buttons, small practical-everyday buttons.  They were all different colors, red-and yellow-black and white, they are precious in his sight... (or in this case my sight)

As I looked through those buttons they were memories.  I remember that dress; pink silk covered buttons  - Gram used to wear that dress to church.  Oh look, those were the buttons from that coat that was so pretty...

Clothes were worn until the only life left in them was the rag bag and the button box.  How times have changed.  We now have so many clothes in the closet that we stand and stare and wonder what in the world will I wear today?

Today I'm adding to the button box.  I am re-purposing a white blouse that the dryer 'ate'.  It was one of my favorites but unfortunately burned a bit here and there from its fiasco in the dryer.

Today it is becoming two blouses for Christmas dolls. 

What better use of a favored blouse that has no more life in it but buttons and portions of unscorched areas.

I think Gram would be pleased.

Do you like to make your own cards??  I do, but some are so busy and detailed that they are intimidating!  Here are a few that are really cute as well as easy to do.  The best kind!  Merry card making.

Putting the Bees to Bed for Winter

We did this on the 12th I'm just finally getting around to doing a post on it...

We had a cold front coming through on the 13th that predicted 50 mile an hour gusts (and the predictions were true).  So it was time to get the bees all tucked in for the winter.  Last year we sent hives to sunny CA but this year we decided to winter them at home.

DH and #1 son got together.  They first went to #1 sons home and tucked his hives in (I didn't go so didn't get pictures of that) then back to our house to tuck in our bees.

Checking to make sure they have enough honey to get through the winter.  I'm not the bee person but I believe it was 8 full trays. 

We were able to 'rob' some from the super.

We still have to get the restrictors on at the front.  Mice can get in and destroy a hive.  So that is still on the 'to do' list.  DH has been very busy and hasn't a chance yet but will.

Games - Good Old Fashion Fun

The holidays are coming and that means school breaks, what a great time to teach some games. Maybe your kids know these already but maybe, just maybe, these are new to them. Either way they are fun.

Dry Cold Air

Cold temperatures have arrived and that means dry air.  Of course we have a kettle on the wood stove to put moisture in the air but it still seems dry.  This is one of the best remedies I know.

Mix 1 cup (8oz) of warm water with 1/4 tsp of non-iodized salt (such as pickling or canning salt) and 1/4 tsp of baking soda. Stir until dissolved.

A simple yet effective technique is to pour salt water solution into one nostril and let it run out through the other while the mouth is kept open to breathe, using gravity as an aid.  The flow of salt water through the nasal passage flushes the dirt, airborne allergens (dust and pollen), pollutants and bacteria-filled mucus.

There are many different neti pots available for this purpose.  You can also use a bulb syringe.  Remember to wash your hands and all pots or syringes.  Then air dry them. 
It's important to keep it all clean you don't want to introduce germs but wash them out while you are rehydrating your nasal passages.
