Prepper

Are you a prepper? Definition of a prepper:
Prepper (noun): An individual or group that prepares or makes preparations in advance of, or prior to, any change in normal circumstances or lifestyle without significant reliance on other persons (i.e., being self-reliant), or without substantial assistance from outside resources (govt., etc.) in order to minimize the effects of that change on their current lifestyle.

I was raised to be a prepper by my prepper grandparents and parents. Taught to save for a rainy day, make hay while the sun shines, waste not want not, etc.. To me this is not only the smart way to live but the only way to live. Grow a garden, bottle and freeze your produce for winter as fresh isn't as readily available.

My grandparents grew large gardens and then put by the food for the long winter when fresh wasn't available. My mother canned fruits and vegetables by the bushel. Dad would stop by the farmers market or road side stands and bring home vegetables and or fruit that were picked fresh that morning. Mom would can it all up the very next day. Her canned goods were always fair quality. Dad would deer hunt in the fall as well as fish in the summer. They also bought a side of beef for the freezer.

Did my parents realize they were preppers I wonder??  No, they were just putting by the locally grown produce that was so abundant. I wonder if my parents/grandparents knew they were living green too? The vegetables didn't come from miles away they came from the neighborhood.   Hmmm, sometimes it seems that to go forward maybe we need to go back.

No we didn't have papaya or kiwi.  We had beautiful apples, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, peaches, cherries, etc.  All that grew in our area.  We did have oranges and tangerines at Christmas time shipped all the way from Florida.  They were a real treat. A treat not the rule. 

I'm proud of my parents and grandparents and the lifestyle they lived and taught.  Preparing for the winters need in the summer and fall.  Putting by, stocking up, saving and working.  Preppers every one.

I hope you will be a prepper too.  Now is the time to begin the 'prepper' process.  Put the locally grown produce by, for winter will come again.
